COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second consecutive year, New Mexico’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams were both named preseason favorites to win the 2025 Mountain West titles, as voted on by the league’s head coaches. After sweeping the 2024 titles last November, the men will be eyeing a third straight league championship in 2025, while the women will be looking to go back-to-back this season.
The Lobos were overwhelming favorites in both polls with the men’s squad garnering 81 points and 9 of the 10 first-place votes, while the women collected 121 points and 11 of the 12 first-place votes.
On the men’s side, Boise State came in second with 61 points, while Wyoming was picked third with 60 points, including one first-place vote. Air Force and Utah State tied for fourth after receiving 57 points each, followed by Colorado State in sixth (48), Grand Canyon in seventh (31), Nevada in eighth (28), Fresno State in ninth (16) and San José State in 10th (11).
Rounding out the top three of the cross country poll on the women’s side was Boise State in second with 111 points and one first-place vote followed by Colorado State in third with 94 points. Utah State checked in at fourth (85) with Air Force in fifth (83), Wyoming in sixth (75), Grand Canyon in seventh (53) and Nevada in eighth (52). San Diego State is ninth (48 points), while Fresno State (29), UNLV (22) and San José State (19) came in at 10th, 11th and 12th, respectively.
