COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The defending Mountain West men and women’s cross country champions, New Mexico, will start the 2025 season ranked in the top five of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason poll, released on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The Lobo men are No. 2, while the women came in at No. 4, marking the first time in program history both squads are ranked in the top four in the country at the same time. It also marks the highest ranking in program history for the men and the highest for the women since they finished the 2022 season at No. 2.

On the men’s side, Air Force joined the Lobos in the top 25, checking in at No. 23, while Wyoming and Boise State each received votes. The Broncos also received votes in the women’s preseason poll.

The 2025 Mountain West Cross Country season gets underway this weekend with conference squads set to compete on Friday, Aug. 29 and Saturday, Aug. 30.

The 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Cross Country Championships are set for Friday, October 31 and will be hosted by Fresno State at the Woodward Park in Fresno, California.
