Air Force senior punter Luke Freer was named to the Ray Guy Award watch list. The award recognizes the best punter in college football each year.

Freer was named preseason first-team all-Mountain West this season. He was a second-team selection last season when he averaged 47.5 yards per punt last season to set a new single season Air Force record, breaking the mark of 47.3 set by Mark Simon in 1985. Freer would have led the Mountain West and ranked fourth nationally, but lacked enough attempts to qualify. He had 10 punts inside the 20 and 14 of 50-plus. He recorded a career-long of 72 yards which ranks 12th in program history vs. San Jose State last season.

The Augusta Sports Council announced the Preseason Watch List, which includes 15 punters from the  the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

Air Force opens the 2025 season Saturday, Aug. 30, vs. Bucknell at 1:30 p.m. in Falcon Stadium. To purchase or renew Air Force football season tickets, please visit www.aftickets.com or call 719-472-1895.

About the Ray Guy Award
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned, with particular emphasis placed on net average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline, and have a positive impact on the team’s success.
