ARLINGTON, Texas – Six teams and an individual from the Mountain West are heading to Arlington, Texas, for CECC May Madness 2025, the premier collegiate esports event. The MW earned automatic bids in Overwatch 2, Rocket League, Street Fighter 6, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SSBU) and VALORANT.
Boise State claimed the Mountain West title in Rocket League during the fall, securing an automatic bid to CECC as the No. 3 seed. The Broncos are placed in a group with Concord University, Fisher College and Illinois State. They also earned an at-large bid in VALORANT and will compete as the 12 seed, opening against Akron. In Overwatch 2, Boise State captured another MW championship and enters CECC as the 14 seed, where they’ll face the University of Texas at Dallas in the first round.
San José State earned automatic CECC bids by winning the Mountain West titles in SSBU and VALORANT, while also securing an at-large spot in Rocket League. The Spartans’ VALORANT squad is the 4 seed in a group with Maryville, St. Clair and Texas A&M. Their SSBU team holds the 20th seed and will face Manchester in the first round. The Rocket League team enters as the 16 seed grouped with Arizona, Ball State and Cumberland.
SJSU’s Nathan “A Pink DS Lite” Yoakum, earned the MW’s automatic bid in Street Fighter 6. The Fall Player of the Year is seeded fourth in the 12-player tournament.
