LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV Lady Rebels suffered a heartbreak loss in the second round of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament, 86-84 against Florida on Sunday afternoon at Cox Pavilion. The Scarlet & Gray (26-8) battled with the Gators (18-17) for the entire 40 minutes.
UNLV had four players score in double-digits and were led by Amarachi Kimpson’s 24 points on the day. Kimpson shot 7-for-13 from the field, 2-for-4 from the three and was 8-for-10 at the charity stripe. Alyssa Brown picked up her fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kiara Jackson drained 15 points, while Meadow Roland put up 12 points, respectively. Additionally, Jackson led the squad in assists with eight.
Florida also had four players in double-figures and were led by Liv McGill who had 22 points, while Jeriah Warren had 18 points, respectively.
STAT OF THE GAME: The Lady Rebels and Gators were tied five times through the game and exchanged the lead 13 times.
LAST SECOND SHOT: The Gators were down by one point, 84-83, with 37 seconds left. After back-to-back timeouts from both sides, Florida had possession and took a three-point shot with one second left that sank at the buzzer.
OTHER NOTES:
- The Lady Rebels dominated the paint and scored 34 of their 84 in the paint.
- Florida out-rebounded UNLV 37-35.
- The Lady Rebels and Gators were neck-and-neck in assists, with UNLV having 17 and Florida had 18.
- UNLV’s best scoring run was in the second quarter, scoring 12 straight points.
- UNLV forced 15 Florida turnovers and scored 14 points off them.
