LAS VEGAS – The Mountain West announced the 2024-25 All-Mountain West Teams and individual honors today, as voted on by the leagues 11 head coaches.
Wyoming’s Allyson Fertig earned the Mountain West Player of the Year, while fellow Cowgirl Emily Mellema was selected as the MW Defensive Player of the Year. Colorado State graduate transfer Emma Ronsiek was tabbed the Newcomer of the Year. UNLV’s Meadow Roland was named the Sixth Player and the Freshman of the Year, while the Lady Rebels’ Lindy La Rocque garnered the Mountain West Coach of the Year nod.
Fertig finished the regular season averaging 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds and shooting 58.4 percent from the floor. The Wyoming native earned MW Player of the Week honors three times this season, was named the 2021-22 Freshman of the Year previously and has earned All-MW honors in each of her last four years. The 2024-25 Preseason Co-Player of the Year is the first Cowgirl to earn the Player of the Year honor since the 2017-18 season (Liv Roberts) and the third overall in MW history.
Mellema is the fourth Cowgirl to earn the MW Defensive Player of the Year nod. The Washington native averaged 9.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals and shot 44.8 percent for the hardwood during Conference play.
The two Cowgirls led their team to a 14-4 MW record, a No. 2 seed in the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Women’s Basketball Championship and a first-round bye.
Ronsiek is the first Ram to be named MW Newcomer of the Year since 2020-21 (McKenna Hofschild). The Creighton transfer averaged 17.9 points and 6.2 rebounds and guided the Rams to a 13-5 record in MW action, the third seed in the MW Championship and a first-round bye.
For the second consecutive year, a UNLV freshman has been tabbed the MW Sixth Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Roland averaged 11.4 points and 5.4 rebounds and shot 59.8 percent from the field. The California native picked up the MW Freshman of the Week honor four times this season.
La Rocque has collected the MW Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year award for the third time in her five-year tenure at the helm for the Lady Rebels and is the only coach to earn such an honor for the Scarlet and Gray program. The Las Vegas native led her team to a 16-2 Conference record, a fourth consecutive regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the MW tournament with a first-round bye.
