ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships opened competition Thursday with six events at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The day started with the men’s heptathlon and the conclusion of the women’s pentathlon before wrapping up with both the men’s and women’s 5,000-meter races and distance medley relays. With three events completed, New Mexico is leading the way in both the women’s and men’s team scores with 19 points on the women’s side and 42 points on the men’s side.
New Mexico’s Habtom Samuel broke his own MW championship record in the men’s 5,000m by more than 10 seconds with a 13:33.43 finish to complete the Lobos’ sweep of both the men’s and women’s races in that distance, with Pamela Kosgei (15:53.72) also setting a new women’s championship record en route to her first conference track title.
Day Two’s competition gets underway at 10 a.m. MT with the men’s heptathlon 60-meter hurdles.
