BOISE, Idaho – Boise State senior Ahmed Hassanein is one of three finalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, the organization announced. The award is presented annually to the FBS college football player who demonstrates a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field. Hassanein is joined by North Carolina’s Kaimon Rucker and J.J. Weaver (Kentucky).
“I am excited to announce these three outstanding young men as the finalists for the eighth annual Collegiate Man of the Year,” said Witten. “Ahmed, Kaimon and J.J. have all demonstrated exceptional leadership on and off the field and set the standard for what being a student-athlete is all about.”
Hassanein was a first team All-Mountain West selection for the second-straight season. He ranks seventh in the FBS with 55 total pressures. He also has 8.5 sacks, tied for 19th in the nation. The senior has 42 total tackles, including 12.5 TFLs, as well as a fumble recovery. He captains a Boise State defense that ranks second in the country in sacks (51) and third in tackles for loss (104).
Raised in Cairo, Egypt, Hassanein moved to California in 2019. With the help of his brother, Cory, he has become fluent in English and earned recognition as one of the best edge rushers in college football. He was named Academic All-America by College Sports Communicators in 2023 and is a three-time Academic All-MW selection.
In addition to his athletic and academic achievements, Hassanein is a major contributor in the Boise community. He serves on the leadership committee for BroncoBOLD, a mental health initiative that is driven by student-athletes. He also volunteers at local schools, food drives and the juvenile detention center.
The eighth winner of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award will be announced on Feb. 12, 2025, at a ceremony in Arlington, Texas.
