HONOLULU – University of Hawai’i quarterback Micah Alejado received two national freshman of the week honors following his breakout performance in his first career collegiate start over the weekend against New Mexico.

The Las Vegas, Nev., native was named the Shaun Alexander National Freshman of the Week by the Maxwell Football Club and the 247Sports True Freshman of the Week.

These awards come one day after Alejado was named the Mountain West’s Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week along with the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 and the Manning Award’s “Stars of the Week”.

Alejado made his first career start and finished 37-of-57 with 469 passing yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for 54 yards on 10 carries and totaled 523 yards of total offense, which is the second-highest total in FBS this season.

Alejado set new UH freshman single-game record for passing yards and passing touchdowns, while hiis completions, attempts, passing yards, passing TDs, and total offense are the most by a UH quarterback in his starting debut. He is also the first UH quarterback in program history to throw for 450+ yards and rush for 50+ yards in a game

Among FBS freshmen nationally this season, his 469 yards passing and 37 completions are the most in a single-game while his five touchdowns are tied for the most.
