LARAMIE, Wyo. – No. 12 Boise State finished its 2024 Mountain West slate with an undefeated record after defeating Wyoming, 17-13, Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.
The win earns the Broncos (10-1, 7-0 MW) a spot in the 2024 Old Trapper MW Football Championship, set to take place on Friday, Dec. 6. It marks the fourth time Boise State has finished with an undefeated conference record over the past six seasons.
Ashton Jeanty powered the Broncos offensively, finishing with 169 yards and a rushing touchdown. The HEI2MAN-candidate became the first Bronco in program history to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a season, and is the first FBS player to do so since 2019 when four players achieved the feat.
The junior running back’s 61-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter gave Boise State a 7-3 advantage with 3:40 remaining. The Cowboys (2-9, 2-5 MW) answered midway through the second quarter with a 4-play, 67-yard touchdown drive. Jonah Dalmas evened the score with a 24-yard field goal as the two teams entered intermission knotted at 10.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Wyoming took the lead on a 35-yard kick with a little over nine minutes to go. But Boise State didn’t back down.
On the ensuing drive, Jeanty recorded four rushes for 53 yards of offense, setting up Jambres Dubar for a 2-yard touchdown rush to give Boise State the lead with 5:02 remaining on the clock. Wyoming looked to be driving after picking up two first downs on its next drive, but Ahmed Hassanein recorded a sack on fourth down to stifle the Cowboy drive. Wyoming would get the ball back with 14 seconds left, but three-straight incompletions secured the victory for the Broncos.
