LOGAN, Utah — Utah State football player Ike Larsen has been named this week’s nominee for the 2024 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Courage Award was first presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) in 2002. A select group of writers from the FWAA vote on the winner each year. The requirements for nomination include displaying courage on or off the field, including overcoming an injury or physical handicap, preventing a disaster or living through hardship.

Larsen, a junior safety from Smithfield, Utah (Sky View HS), has been an outspoken champion of mental health off the field. On the field, Larsen has led the Aggies with seven pass breakups this season, adding one interception and ranking second on the team with 61 total tackles, including 1.5 for loss. Larsen was named to the Comeback Player of the Year Watch List presented by College Sports Communicators (CSC) and the Associated Press earlier this season.

Prior to the season, Larsen was also named to watch lists for the Chuck Bednarik Award (awarded annually to the top defensive player in the nation), the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Watch List (awarded annually to the best defensive back in the nation) and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List (awarded annually the best defensive player in the nation).

Fall Schedule
Utah State comes out of its bye week to play at Washington State on Saturday, Nov. 9. Kickoff time is to be announced. The game will be broadcast on the CW.
