SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 1, 2024) – Wyoming senior center Allyson Fertig has been named to the Naismith Starting 5 Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Watchlist. Fertig is one of 20 student-athletes on the initial list for the prestigious award, given to the nation’s top center.
Fertig, who was named the Preseason Mountain West Co-Player of the Year and to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watchlist in October, is a two-time All-Mountain West Team honoree. Last season, Fertig ranked sixth in the league in scoring averaging 14.3 points per game while she was second in the conference in rebounding with 8.4 per contest and in blocks with 1.64 per game. Fertig’s 60.8-percent field goal percentage in 2023-24 was 10th-best, nationally, and set a school record. Her 13 double-doubles last season also led the MW.
Fertig and the rest of the Cowgirls host Chadron State this evening in a 5:30 exhibition contest. Wyoming opens the regular season November 4, also at 5:30, against Colorado.
