BOISE, Idaho – The Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year picked up a national accolade on Wednesday as Boise State’s Tyson Degenhart was named to the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Top 20 Preseason Watch List, as announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame.

The prestigious award honors the best small forward in men’s college basketball. Degenhart is the first Boise State player to see his name on the award’s watch list since Derrick Alston, Jr. in 2020-21.

Degenhart, who was named this season’s Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year on Oct. 17, is coming off his junior campaign last year in which he averaged 16.7 points on 50.3% field goal shooting as well as 6.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 blocks in 32 games. The Spokane, Wash. native was a first team Academic All-American, first team NABC All-District 17 selection, and first team All-Mountain West honoree.

A two-time All-Mountain West First Team recipient, Degenhart enters this season with 1,361 career points in 101 games (95 starts). He needs 584 points to become Boise State’s all-time scoring leader and has an opportunity to crack the Broncos’ all-time career top-10 in rebounds, field goals made, free throws made, games played and games started.

Last year, Dalton Knecht of Tennessee won the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year award.

Boise State is a week away from opening its 2024-25 season as it will host Oakland at ExtraMile Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Fans can secure their seats for the Broncos’ 15-home game schedule at ExtraMile Arena by visiting broncosports.com/tickets or by calling the Boise State Athletics Ticket Office at (208) 426-4737.
