HOPEWELL, N.J. (Oct. 9, 2024) – For the second season in a row, Allyson Fertig was named to the watch list for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, presented by Her Hoop Stats, announced Wednesday morning. Fertig is one of 25 student-athletes named to the list. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be “mid-major.”

Fertig, who is a two-time All-Mountain West Team honoree, ranked sixth in the Mountain West a season ago in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. Fertig was second in the league in rebounding with 8.4 a contest and was also second averaging 1.64 blocks per game. Her 60.8-percent field goal shooting led the league and was 10th-best, nationally. Fertig also led the MW with 13 double-doubles a season ago.

Fertig and the rest of the Cowgirls will be hosting an open practice Saturday morning inside the Arena-Auditorium beginning at 10:30. Wyoming opens the season with a November 1 exhibition at 5:30 p.m., against Chadron State. The regular season tips Nov. 4 as Colorado comes to town for a 5:30 p.m., contest.

The Becky Hammon Award is a named for the three-time All-America and former WNBA All-Star and All-WNBA First Team honoree, who retired in 2014. Hammon became the second female coach in NBA history when she began coaching for the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Hammon is currently the head coach of the Las Vegas Aces, who won the 2022 and 2023 WNBA Championships.

Her Hoop Stats was founded in 2017 to “unlock better insight about women’s basketball at all levels.” Her Hoop Stats has become a leading independent voice in the women’s game.
