BOISE, Idaho – For the third time this season, Ashton Jeanty has been named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week. He ran for 186 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries against Utah State, leading Boise State to a Mountain West-opener win, 62-30.

On Boise State’s first offensive snap, Jeanty scored a 63-yard touchdown. In the second quarter, he ran for a 75-yard touchdown, setting the MW single-season record for most rushing touchdowns of 70-plus yards (4). He has seven rushes of more than 60 yards, three more than any single FBS team. His average of 14.3 yards per carry is the second-highest single-game mark in program history.

The HEI2MAN candidate leads the country in rushing yards (1,031), rushing touchdowns (16), yards per rush (10.9), yards per game (206.2) and yards after contact (755). He is the eighth player since 1996 to eclipse 1,000 yards in five games, but has done so in 16 quarters, having rested the second half against Portland State and Utah State. Jeanty previously earned the Doak Walker Running Back of the Week Award after his performances against Georgia Southern and Washington State.

Last year, Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II earned the weekly award three times before winning the 2023 Doak Walker Award. Jeanty has matched this total in five weeks, adding to a collection of accolades that includes four MW Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Boise State climbed to No. 17 in the AP Poll and entered the US LBM Coaches Poll for the first time this season, earning a No. 22 ranking. The Broncos travel to Hawai’i for their next MW contest, playing the Rainbow Warriors at 9 p.m. MT on Oct. 12.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
