COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Wyoming’s Kylie Simshauser has been named the Mountain West Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and Colorado State’s Lars Mitchel was selected as the MW Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Sara Jones of San Diego State and Utah State’s Michael Moffat were tabbed the MW Freshmen of the Week.

WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

KYLIE SIMSHAUSER, WYOMING

Senior, Florence, Colorado/Florence HS

  • Finished third in the 6k race at Minnesota’s prestigious Roy Griak Invitational (21:24.4) that featured a field that included No. 25 Utah Valley.
  • Second third-place finish this season.
  • Led the Cowgirls to a third-place finish overall.

WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

SARA JONES, SAN DIEGO STATE

Gilbert, Arizona/Perry HS

  • Posted a career-best 5k time of 17:53.1 to finish sixth overall out of 280 runners at the UCR Invitational.
  • Beat her personal best by over a minute.
  • Fastest 5k time by an Aztec on the UCR 5k course since 2017 and fifth fastest on the course in program history.

MEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

LARS MITCHEL, COLORADO STATE

Grad., Huntington Beach, California/Huntington Beach HS

  • Took second overall in the 8k at the Roy Griak Invitational (25:01.1), the Rams’ highest finisher at the event since 2017.
  • Second straight runner-up finish in as many meets this year.
  • Helped the Rams finish fourth overall.

MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

MICHAEL MOFFAT, UTAH STATE

Saratoga Springs, Utah/Westlake HS

  • Finished seventh overall in the 8k at the UC Riverside Invitational with a time of 23:41.3.
  • Was the third-highest finisher for USU and helped the Aggies take second as a team.
