COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams were both named preseason favorites to win the 2024 Mountain West titles, as voted on by the league’s head coaches. This marks the first time programs from the same school sit atop the preseason polls since New Mexico earned the nod in back-to-back years in 2014 and 2015.

The Lobos’ men’s team received 63 points and seven first-place votes, while the women’s squad garnered 97 points and nine first-place votes.

On the men’s side, Air Force finished second with 55 points and two first-place votes, while Wyoming was picked third (44 points). Boise State, Colorado State and Utah State tied for fourth after all receiving 39 points, followed by Nevada in seventh (20), Fresno State in eighth (13) and San José State in ninth (12).

Rounding out the top three of the cross country poll on the women’s side was Colorado State in second with 88 points and two first-place votes followed by Air Force in third with 84 points. Boise State checked in at fourth (70) with Utah State in fifth (65), Wyoming in sixth (61) and San Diego State in seventh (40). Nevada took eighth (37 points) while Fresno State (30), UNLV (21) and San José State (12) came in at ninth, 10th and 11th.
