LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The New Mexico women’s golf team had two players continue play at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional on Tuesday as the second round was held at Spanish Trail Golf Club. Myah McDonald and Lauren Lehigh are both in the top 25 heading into the final round.

McDonald remained at 1-under for the tournament and is T-13th after shooting an even par 72 on Tuesday. Lehigh is at 2-over for the tournament and is T-21st after posting a 2-over 74 in the second round.

The top individual who isn’t on an advancing team at the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships later this month. After the second round, McDonald is three shots back of the lowest individual not on an advancing team, while Lehigh is six shots back of that spot.

McDonald opened her round with a birdie on No. 1 before a double bogey on No. 5 put her over par for the day. She answered with a birdie on No. 6, but a bogey on No. 7 had her 1-over for the front nine. McDonald birdied No. 10, No. 15 and No. 16 on the back nine, to go with a pair of bogeys. Lehigh played the front nine in even par, with a birdie on No. 6 and a bogey on No. 8. Two late bogeys, on No. 16 and No. 18, gave her a 2-over round on Tuesday.

“They both had a couple missed shots today that cost them,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Myah can make up ground on par-3s and Lauren on the par-5s. They know how to take it low on this course and I am excited to see what tomorrow brings.”

The NCAA Las Vegas Regional will conclude Wednesday at Spanish Trail Golf Club. The top five teams and the top individual (not on an advancing team) at the tournament will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 17-22 in Carlsbad, Calif.
