LOGAN, Utah – Utah State all-arounder Brianna Brooks was named the NCAA North Central Region (Region 2) Gymnast of the Year for the second-straight season, while Robert Ladanyi, Rachel Slocum and Daniel Barclay were named the North Central Region Assistant Coaches of the Year, it was announced Wednesday by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association.
“I am so proud of Brianna and what she has done for Utah State gymnastics,” said second-year head coach Kristin White. “It is her second time receiving this award and it is a true testament to her work ethic and leadership. We are honored to have her as an Aggie and appreciate everything she has given to this program.”
Brooks will conclude her collegiate career on Friday by competing on bars at the NCAA Regional Championships in Berkeley, California. The senior from Las Vegas, Nevada, averaged 9.852 on bars in 2024, a mark that ranks fourth all-time in school history.
Brooks finished the season ranked 91st in the nation, 17th in the North Central Region and fourth in the Mountain West with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.880 on bars. She also ranked 78th nationally, 11th regionally and fourth in the conference with an NQS of 39.130 in the all-around.
Brooks garnered second-team all-MW accolades on bars this season and won the bars title at the MW Championships with a 9.900, while finishing second in the all-around with a 39.300. She earned two individual titles in 2024, including one in the all-around and one on bars.
Ladanyi and Slocum are both in their second seasons at Utah State, while Barclay is in his first as a full-time assistant. The trio helped Utah State score over 196.000 three times this year, including a season-best 196.500 at the Mountain West Championships as the Aggies finished in second place. That 196.500 is also the second highest for USU in school history at a conference championship meet.
“Congratulations to Robert, Rachel and Daniel. I believe we have one of the best coaching staffs in the country and it is a wonderful honor for them to be recognized. They work incredibly hard and believe in the vision for Utah State gymnastics. I am so grateful for their passion for the student-athletes and the sport of gymnastics,” added White.
