LAS VEGAS – The Mountain West announced its 2023-24 Women’s Basketball All-Conference teams and individual awards as voted on by the leagues 11 head coaches. The 10-person All-Mountain West team is comprised of student-athletes from Air Force (1), Boise State (1), Colorado State (1), New Mexico (2), San Diego State (2), UNLV (2) and Wyoming (1).

 

In his 17th season and eighth at the helm of the New Mexico Lobos, Mike Bradbury has been named the Mountain West Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. UNLV’s Desi-Rae Young was tabbed the MW Player of the Year. New Mexico’s Aniyah Augmon garnered the MW Defensive Player of the Year nod, while teammate Nyah Wilson was named the MW Newcomer of the Year. UNLV rookie Amarachi Kimpson earned both the MW Freshman of the Year and the Sixth Player of the Year honors.

 

Bradbury, led the Lobos to a 12-6 record in league play and is just the third coach from New Mexico to be named the MW Coach of the Year and first since 2014-15.

 

Young led the Lady Rebels to a third consecutive regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the Conference tournament. The senior center logged the second-most points in the league with 343 and led the league in rebounds with 164, while recording 12 double-doubles over the season. Young shot 59.6 percent from the field and 64.7 percent from the free throw line in Conference action. The Las Vegas native is the fourth player to earn the honor multiple times in MW history and the second Lady Rebel to accomplish this feat (Linda Fröhlich, 2000-02).

 

Augmon helped the Lobos to a 12-6 league record, while averaging 14.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game. The junior shot 42.1 percent from the field and 72.7 percent from the free throw line. Augmon is the second Lobo to be named the MW Defensive Player of the Year and the first since 2011-12.

 

Wilson transferred into the league from Syracuse and immediately made a name for herself. The guard is fourth in the Mountain West in scoring, 17.7 points per game, and field goal percentage, 46 percent, and 10th in assists, 2.9 per game. The Newcomer earned three Mountain West Player of the Week honors, while averaging 33.7 minutes per game for the Cherry and Silver. Wilson is the seventh Lobo to win the award and first since 2018-19.

 

Freshman standout, Kimpson, garnered three MW Freshman of the Week honors, while averaging 10.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game for the Scarlet and Gray. The guard ranks 17th in the league in scoring, while shooting 54.5 from the field, 41.7 from three and 82.8 from the free throw line. Kimpson is the third Lady Rebel to be named Freshman of the Year, first since 2012-13. She is the fourth Lady Rebel to be named Sixth Person of the Year and the third in a row.
