RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women’s basketball team clinched the Mountain West Regular Season title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the third straight year, after a 98-67 victory over intrastate rival UNR on Saturday evening at the Lawlor Events Center. This is part of the Silver State Series, presented by America First Credit Union.

Kiara Jackson put up 18 points to lead the Lady Rebels (24-2, 14-1 MW) and shot 8-for-10 from the field and was 2-for-4 from the three-point line. Desi-Rae Young notched her 47th career double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds (two offensive, eight defensive). Young’s 17 points put her in sole possession of being the second all-time leading scorer (1,908 career points) in program history. Young was 7-for-11 from the field and was 3-for-4 at the free throw line. Jasmyn Lott and Nneka Obiazor each drained 13 points off the bench.

The Wolf Pack (14-14, 8-7) had four players in double-digits and were led by Kennedy Lee with 18 points. Izzy Sullivan was close behind with 17 points.

CONTROLLED FROM THE START: UNLV came out hot and scored the first six points of the game to get ahead early. The Lady Rebels held a double-digit lead, 27-13, after the first 10 minutes of play. UNLV then added 23 more points in the second quarter to increase the advantage to 30, and only let the Wolf Pack tack on seven points, 50-20. The Lady Rebels did not let up after the break and put up another 22 points in the third quarter and 26 points in the fourth to earn the 98-67 victory.

DEFENSIVE EFFORT: UNLV held UNR to just 20 points in the first half (9-for-27 field goals and 1-for-8 three-pointers). The Lady Rebels only allowed the Wolf Pack to score seven points in the second quarter (3-for-14 field goals and 0-for-6 three-pointers).

HIGHLIGHTS

OTHER NOTES:

  • The Lady Rebels completed the MW regular season three-peat for the first time in program history. UNLV’s three-peat is the first in MW history since Colorado State went for the four-peat from 2014-17.
  • The Lady Rebels have now won nine straight games and have an 18-0 road MW streak.
  • Under head coach Lindy La Rocque, UNLV is 7-2 against UNR.
  • UNLV completed the regular season sweep over UNR.
  • Ashley Scoggin collected 10 points tonight by shooting 4-for-7 from the field and was 2-for-4 from long range.
  • UNLV out-rebounded UNR 37-24.
  • The Lady Rebels’ bench continues to play a strong role in each game and scored 41 of the 98 points tonight against the Wolf Pack.
  • UNLV had 46 paint points compared to UNR’s 30.

UP NEXT: The Lady Rebels will play their final two home games of the regular season beginning on Wednesday, February 28 hosting Boise State at the Cox Pavilion.
