COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The UNLV Lady Rebels swept Mountain West women’s basketball weekly honors after week 16. Center Desi-Rae Young was tabbed the MW Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while rookie teammate Amarachi Kimpsongarnered the MW Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week nod.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DESI-RAE YOUNG, UNLV

Senior, Center, Las Vegas, Nevada/Desert Oasis HS

  • Led the Lady Rebels to a 2-0 week at Wyoming (63-60, OT) and at Nevada (98-67) in which UNLV clinched the regular-season title for the third consecutive year.
  • Averaged 16 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
  • In the overtime win at Wyoming, Young scored 15 points while shooting 50 percent from the field and pulled down nine boards. Also contributed three steals, one block and one assist for the Scarlet and Gray, who clinched at least a share of the regular-season title with the win.
  • At in-state rival Nevada, logged her 47th career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Shot 56.5 percent from the floor and dished two assists and logged one steal.
  • With the win over the Wolf Pack, the Lady Rebels clinched the regular- season title outright as well as the No. 1 seed in the Mountain West tournament.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

AMARACHI KIMPSON, UNLV

Guard, Little Elm, Texas/Little Elm HS

  • Averaged 10 points, two rebounds, 2.5 assists and one steal per game.
  • At Wyoming, recorded 16 points while shooting 6-for-9 from the field and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
  • At Nevada, posted four points, two rebounds, five assists and one steal.
