HOUSTON, Texas – Nevada’s Scarlett Ferris set a Mountain West record in the 100-yard backstroke, while San Diego State continued to top the team standings on day three of the Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships.

Ferris earned gold in the 100-back with a time of 51.49, beating the previous Championship and Mountain West record of 51.92 set by San Diego State’s Anika Apostalon in 2014. San Diego State’s Alex Roberts clocked a second-place time of 51.95, while UNLV’s Dominika Trentkiewicz came in third with a time of 53.07. The top five placers in the event earned NCAA B Standard times.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, San Diego State won the event with a time of 1:29.80. UNLV came in second with a time of 1:30.01, while Fresno State clocked a third-place finish in 1:31.53.

UNLV’s Blanka Bokros nabbed the gold in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.39, while San Diego State’s Alex Roberts finished in second place in 52.96. Filling in the top three was UNLV’s Fernanda Mendez Guerra in 52.97. The top five finishers in the event all recorded NCAA B Standards.

In the 400-yard individual medley, Colorado State’s Erin Dawson logged a winning time of 4:11.13, while teammate Sydney VanOvermeiren logged a third-place finish in 4:16.14. Nevada’s Frederica Kizek slid into second place with a time of 4:13.61. The top five finishers in that event also earned B cuts.

Wyoming’s Tara Joyce posted a time of 1:46.11 in earning the 200-yard freestyle title as well as an NCAA B Standard. UNLV’s Erika Carlson came in at 1:47.30 in second place, while, Colorado State’s  Dawson logged a bronze finish with a time of 1:47.36.

San Diego State’s Moa Bergdahl finished the 100-yard breaststroke in first with a time of 59.97. Fresno State’s Aliz Kalmar recorded a second-place time of 1:00.05, while San Diego State’s Christiana Williams finished .15 seconds later (1:00.20) to receive bronze. Once again, the top five finishers earned NCAA B Standard times.

San Diego State has totaled 944 points through three days of competition and carries a 62.5-point lead over second-place UNLV into Saturday’s events as it attempts to close out its third straight MW Championship.

Championship events are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT Saturday, Feb. 24, with the 200-yard backstroke preliminary round followed by the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, platform, and the 1,650-yard freestyle prelims. Finals begin at approximately 6 p.m. CT in the previously listed order.
