COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San José State junior Lucia Lopez Ortega has been tabbed the Mountain West Women’s Golfer of the Week and Boise State rookie Teal Matsueda has been named the MW Freshman of the Week.

The weekly honor is the sixth of Ortega’s career and the first for Matsueda.

GOLFER OF THE WEEK
LUCIA LOPEZ ORTEGA, SAN JOSÉ STATE
Junior, Sa Coma, Mallorca, Spain/Ies Ortega y Gasset
• Tied for sixth out of 60 golfers at the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club in Kailua Kona, Hawai‘i.
• Turned in a 3-under-par 216 for the tournament, bookending the tournament with a 4-under 69 and a 2-under 71.
• Led the tournament with 16 birdies, including seven in the final round.
• Played the final 11 holes at 5-under.
• Helped San José State to a sixth-place finish in the 12-team field, which included six top-20 ranked teams.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
TEAL MATSUEDA, BOISE STATE
Kaimuki, Hawai‘i/Kalani HS
• Tied for sixth among 22 players at Boise State’s tri-match with Long Beach State and UC Riverside at the Monterey Country Club in Palm Springs, California, helping the Broncos to a second-place finish.
• Shot a 2-over-par 144 for the two-day event played on two different sets of holes, opening with a 5-over 77 before turning in a 3-under 67 in the second round to close out the match.
• Her 3-under 67 was a career low and tied for the low round of the day.
• Recorded five birdies in the second round, tied for most in the field.
