HOUSTON, Texas – The Mountain West Swimming & Diving Championships made their initial splash at the University of Houston today. Three events are now complete: the 200-yard medley relay, 1-meter springboard and the 800-yard freestyle relay.

In the 200-yard medley relay, San Diego State earned the event title with a time of 1:37.94. Coming in second was UNLV with a time of 1:38.41, followed by Nevada in third clocking in at 1:38.52.

UNLV’s Vika Yanovska scored a program-record 330.80 points in the 1-meter springboard to secure the first diving gold for the Rebels in program history. In second place, scoring 328.7 points, was Valentina Lopez Arevalo from San Diego State, followed by San José State’s Jenna Jagielski with 323.4 points.

In the 800-yard free relay, Wyoming came away with a first-place finish, clocking a time of 7:11.15, almost two and a half seconds ahead of second-place , UNLV, which finished with a time of 7:13.41. San Diego State rounded out the top three with a time of 7:15.65.

Day-two events are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT Thursday, Feb. 22, with the 500-yard freestyle preliminary round followed by the 50-yard free, 200-yard individual medley and the three-meter springboard prelims. Finals begin at approximately 6 p.m. CT in the previously listed order.
