FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – Three different Lady Rebels were in double-figures including Kiara Jackson with her first career double-double as the No. 25 UNLV women’s basketball (20-2, 10-1 MW) team downed Fresno State (11-14, 4-8 MW) 63-49 on Saturday afternoon at Save Mart Center.

Jackson led UNLV with 15 points by shooting 6-for-13 from the field and brought down a career-high 10 rebounds (six offensive, four defensive). Desi-Rae Young collected her 45th career double-double of 10 points and a team-high 14 rebounds (two offensive, 12 defensive). Amarachi Kimpson was also in double-figures with 10 points and had two steals.

The Bulldogs were led by Taija Sta. Maria with 11 points, while Sydney Dethman was the leading rebounder on the squad with five, respectively.

CONTROLLED FROM THE START: The Lady Rebels and Bulldogs were tied 6-all with 5:40 left in the first quarter. UNLV then started to heat up and scored 10 straight points to get a double-digit lead and the Lady Rebels never looked back. The largest lead for UNLV against Fresno State was a 19-point differential (55-36) in the fourth quarter.

OTHER NOTES:

  • UNLV out-rebounded Fresno State 44-28.
  • The Lady Rebels dominated the paint and scored 40 points of their 63 inside the paint.
  • Fresno State forced 13 UNLV turnovers and scored 13 points off them.
  • The Lady Rebels outshot the Bulldogs 43.5% (27-of-62) to 33.9% (19-of-56).
  • UNLV remains in sole possession of first-place in the Mountain West standings with a conference record of 10-1.
  • The Lady Rebels still hold the overall series against the Bulldogs 25-21 and with today’s victory, UNLV still remains undefeated against Fresno State under head coach Lindy La Rocque.

UP NEXT: The Lady Rebels will be on home court for the next two games and will first face Colorado State on Wednesday, February 14 at the Cox Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
