COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San José State has been predicted to win the 2024 Mountain West baseball title, as voted on by the league’s seven head coaches. The Spartans received four first-place votes and 33 points overall, while Fresno State is five points behind with 28 points and two first-place votes.
Air Force is in third place with 27 points and the final first-place vote. Rounding out the poll is San Diego State in fourth place (19), New Mexico and UNLV tied for fifth (15) and Nevada in seventh (10).
San José State returns 16 letterwinners from a 2023 squad that won the Spartans’ first MW championship title and made the program’s first NCAA regional appearance since 2002. Among San José State’s returners are three 2023 All-Mountain West selections in senior infielder Theo Hardy, senior infielder Hunter Dorraugh and senior pitcher Mickey Thompson.
The Spartans led the league with four preseason All-Mountain West selections. Fresno State landed three on the preseason team, while Air Force and San Diego State each had two and New Mexico and UNLV had one each.
The 2024 Mountain West baseball season begins Friday, Feb. 16, with all seven teams in action.
