ATLANTA – New Mexico guard Jaelen House was one of 15 players named to the Naismith Men’s Defensive Player of the Year Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday.
House, who is the NCAA active career leader in steals with 274, ranks seventh nationally this season with 2.67 steals per game. He has multiple steals in 14 of his 18 games this season, including a season-high six steals against Santa Clara (Dec. 9) and Nevada (Jan. 28).
House is the only Mountain West player named to the watch list and is the only one of the 15 players not from a power 6 conference. Joining House on the list are Ace Baldwin (Penn State), Reece Beekman (Virginia), Adem Bona (UCLA), Johni Broome (Auburn), Devin Carter (Providence), Ryan Dunn (Virginia), Zach Edey (Purdue), Dajuan Harris, Jr. (Kansas), Ryan Kalkbrenner (Creighton), Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State), Kevin McCullar, Jr. (Kansas), Clifford Omoruyi (Rutgers), Jamal Shead (Houston) and Zakai Zeigler (Tennessee).
The No. 25 Lobos (19-4, 7-3 MW) will host UNLV on Saturday at a soldout Pit. Game time is 6 p.m. and the game will air on CBS Sports Network.
