AROUND THE MOUNTAIN WEST 

  • The Mountain West is celebrating its 25th season of women’s basketball during the 2023-24 campaign.
  • Heading into the 14th week of the 2023-24 season, UNLV is receiving votes in the Associated Press and is ranked 25th in the USA Today Coaches polls.
  • In the current NET rankings for the 2023-24 season, the Mountain West has three programs in the top 100: UNLV (32), Colorado State (94) and Wyoming (100).
  • The Mountain West is one of eight conferences (ACC, .727; Big 12, .822; Big East, .667; Big Ten, .735; Pac-12, .850; SEC, .798; Sun Belt, .614) with a .590 nonconference record or better during the 2023-24 season.
  • Air Force is tied for third in the nation in steals per game (15.0). The Falcons are also ranked third for forced turnovers per game (26.5).
  • UNLV’s road record (10-1) is tied for fifth in the nation, its win-loss record (19-2) is tied for sixth in the country and is one of 11 programs with two of fewer losses on the season.
  • Boise State’s Abby Muse is tied for second in NCAA Division I in blocks per game (5.0).
  • Two Mountain West women’s basketball players have been named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Midseason Watchlist (McKenna Hofschild, Colorado State, and Desi-Rae Young, UNLV).
  • The Mountain West is one of three conferences (MEAC and WCC) to have two student-athletes named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Midseason Watchlist.
  • Colorado State’s McKenna Hofschild has also been named a Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Top Ten Finalist.
  • UNLV’s Desi-Rae Young has also been named a Top Ten Finalist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award. The MW is one of six conferences represented (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC).
