COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Wyoming senior Sam Griffin has been named the Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while New Mexico’s JT Toppin was tabbed the MW Freshman of the Week.
This is the first MW weekly honor for Griffin and sixth of the season for Toppin.
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SAM GRIFFIN, WYOMING
Senior, Guard, Miami, Florida/Tulsa
- Led Wyoming to a 98-93 come-from-behind win over Nevada.
- Scored 26 points, tying his season-high mark, behind an 8-of-13 (.615) shooting performance.
- Recorded a season-best seven assists and six rebounds against the Wolf Pack.
MEN’S BASKETBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
JT TOPPIN, NEW MEXICO
Forward, Dallas, Texas/Faith Family Academy of Oak Cliff
- Helped New Mexico to a 2-0 record with victories over No. 16 Utah State (99-86) and at Air Force (85-66).
- Averaged 18.5 points and nine rebounds, while shooting 81 percent (17-of-21) from the floor.
- Registered 25 points and 13 boards against Air Force. Also tallied a blocked shot and a steal.
- Against the Aggies, recorded 12 points and five rebounds.
