COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV senior Desi-Rae Young has been tabbed the Mountain West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while San José State’s Jyah LoVett has been named the MW Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DESI-RAE YOUNG, UNLV

Senior, Center, Tucson, Las Vegas, Nevada/Oasis HS

  • Led the Lady Rebels to a 2-0 week with wins over San José State (91-55) and Air Force (76-64).
  • Averaged 25 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game, while shooting 76.9 percent from the field and 58.8 percent from the charity stripe.
  • Against the Spartans, the center logged 24 points, six rebounds, four assists and four blocks.
  • At Air Force, recorded her 40th career double-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal for the Scarlet and Gray.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

JYAH LOVETT, SAN JOSÉ STATE

Guard, San Gabriel, California/Bella Vista College Prep.

  • The guard averaged 21 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and one steal per game. Shot 44.1 percent (15-of-34) from the floor, 50 percent (4-of-8) from beyond the arc and 80 percent (8-of-10) from the free-throw line.
  • Against No. 25 UNLV, the freshman tied a career-high 26 points on the road, recorded four assists, three boards and one steal for the Spartans.
  • Against Nevada, logged 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
