AROUND THE MOUNTAIN WEST
- The Mountain West is celebrating its 25th season of men’s basketball during the 2023-24 campaign.
- In the current NET rankings, the Mountain West has four programs ranked among the top 31. Colorado State (16), New Mexico (24), San Diego State (29) are among the top 30.
- The Mountain West is 75-28 (.728) in nonconference action in 2023-24, which is the second-best nonconference record among the 32 conferences. The MW has had a nonconference winning percentage of .600 or better in each of the last four seasons.
- Best in the WEST. The Mountain West is 17-5 against the Pac-12 (5-0) and West Coast Conference (12-5) in 2023-24.
- The Mountain West is one of three conferences (Big 12, Big East to have five or more teams with a winning percentage of .800 or better.
- There are currently 11 teams in the nation that have won eight or more games in a row and two of the teams are from the Mountain West. New Mexico and Utah State currently own an eight-game win streak.
- For the third week in a row, Colorado State is ranked in both the Associated Press poll and the USA Today Coaches poll. The Rams are No. 17 in the AP poll and ranked No. 18 in the coaches poll.
- Heading into the sixth week of the season, Nevada, New Mexico and San Diego State are receiving votes in the national polls.
- Three MW guards rank among the top six in the nation in total assists. Utah State’s Darius Brown III ranks first with 80 assists, while Colorado State’s Isaiah Stevens is second with 75 assists and New Mexico’s Donovan Dent is sixth with 67 assists in 2023-24.
- Three players from the Mountain West are among the top 10 in the country in double-doubles posted. San Diego State’s Jaedon LeDee ranks fourth six double-doubles, while Utah State’s Great Osobor and Wyoming Cam Manyawu are tied for ninth with five each.
- MW teams are limiting opponents to 68.4 points per game, ranking third in the nation behind the Big 12 (64.5) and the Big East (68.3).
- Mountain West programs have won five nonconference tournaments this season. Colorado State won the Hall of Fame Classic, New Mexico won a share of the Ball Dawgs Classic title, San Diego State won both the SoCal Showcase and Continental Tire Main Event and Utah State won the Cayman Islands Classic.
