AROUND THE MOUNTAIN WEST
- The Mountain West is celebrating its 25th season of men’s basketball during the 2023-24 campaign.
- Heading into the third week of the season, Nevada and San Diego State are both receiving votes in the Associated Press Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll. Additionally, Colorado State is receiving votes in the AP
- Two Mountain West squads (Colorado State and Nevada) are undefeated after the first two weeks of the 2023-24 season. The Rams and Wolf Pack are among 60 undefeated teams in the nation.
- The Mountain West is 34-11 (.756) in nonconference action in 2023-24, which is the fifth-best nonconference record among the 32 conferences. The MW has had a nonconference winning percentage of .600 or better in each of the last four seasons.
- Best in the WEST. The Mountain West is 7-1 against the Pac-12 (2-0) and West Coast Conference (5-1) in 2023-24.
- San Diego State senior Jaedon LeDee was named the ESPN National Player of the Week, Andy Katz’s NCAA March Madness Player of the Week and the Lute Olson National Player of the Week after guiding the Aztecs to 2-0 mark at the Continental Tire Main Event. LeDee earned tournament MVP honors, as well.
- A total of six Mountain West squads appeared in the 2023 postseason. Four teams (Boise State, Nevada, San Diego State and Utah State) earned bids to the NCAA tournament. New Mexico received a bid to play in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), while San José State accepted an invitation to play in College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
- The MW’s four teams in the 2023 NCAA tournament marked the second time in league history with back-to-back seasons of four or more NCAA tournament bids. The MW had four in 2012 and five in 2013.
- The Mountain West was one of six conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, SEC) to have back-to-back seasons with four or more NCAA tournament bids in 2022 and 2023.
- The MW was one of seven conferences in 2023 (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC) to have four or more teams earn NCAA tournament bids.
- 2023 marked the fifth straight NCAA tournament that the MW has had multiple bids and the 20th time in Conference history that two or more teams earned bids.
- San Diego State made its first (and the Mountain West’s first) appearance in the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship game in 2023. SDSU was the only team west of the Mississippi River to make the 2023 Final Four.
- The Mountain West was 5-4 in the NCAA tournament in 2023, marking the most NCAA tournament wins in the postseason in league history.
- For the second year in a row and the eighth time since 2000, the Mountain West had six or more teams in the postseason.
