FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State tight end Dallin Holker has been named a semifinalist for the 2023 John Mackey Award, the Friends of John Mackey announced on Wednesday.
The award, which goes to the nation’s top tight end and was awarded to former Colorado State tight end Trey McBride in 2021, narrowed their list down to nine semifinalists including Holker. He is the lone representative from a Group of 5 conference and leads all of the nation’s tight ends in nearly every statistical category.
Holker’s 51 receptions and 653 receiving yards are the most by any tight end this year through nine games and rank No. 31 and No. 46, respectively, among all pass catchers. His six touchdown receptions trail only Oregon State’s Jack Velling for the most by a tight end, and 30 of his 51 receptions have been for a first down – the most by any tight end.
A threat any time he touches the ball, Holker’s 293 yards after the catch are the second-most among tight ends, and he’s making more tough, contested catches than any other tight end with a nation’s best seven this season as graded by Pro Football Focus. He has twice been named the John Mackey Award Tight End of the Week.
Holker was joined on the semifinalist list by…
- AJ Barner, Michigan
- Brock Bowers, Georgia
- Theo Johnson, Penn State
- Bryson Nesbit, North Carolina
- Ja’Tavion Sanders, Texas
- Ben Sinnott, Kansas State
- Cade Stover, Ohio State
- Jack Velling, Oregon State
The 2023 John Mackey Award will be presented during the Home Depot College Awards Show on December 8. He joins McBride as the only other tight end in program history to have been named a semifinalist for the award.
