COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nevada senior Leah John has been tabbed the Mountain West Women’s Golfer of the Month for October, while San José State’s Darae Chung has been selected as the MW Freshman of the Month.

The monthly honors are the first for both athletes.

GOLFER OF THE MONTH
LEAH JOHN, NEVADA
Senior, Vancouver, B.C., Canada / York House School

  • Averaged 70.44 strokes over nine rounds and earned a pair of wins in October in helping her team to a trio of top-five finishes.
  • Won the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational at the Tacoma Country Club in Tacoma, Washington, with a 5-under-par 211 (73-72-66), capping the tournament with a final-round 6-under 66.
  • Earned her second straight victory at the Golf Iconic Classic at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico, shooting a 13-under 203 (65-70-68) that included a 7-under 65 in the first round, which matched the program record.
  • Finished her month with a 4-over 220 (74-73-73) at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at Kapolei Golf Club in Oahu, Hawai‘i, tying for 27th.

FRESHMAN OF THE MONTH
DARAE CHUNG, SAN JOSÉ STATE
Redshirt Freshman, Wellington, New Zealand / Chilton St. James School

  • Averaged 71.83 strokes over six rounds in a pair of tournaments loaded with nationally ranked competition.
  • Turned in her first career top-10 finish at the Illini Women’s Collegiate at Medinah in Medinah, Illinois, shooting a 4-under 212 to tie for ninth. Two of her three rounds were under par (70-69-73).
  • Help the Spartans to a fourth-place finish in the 15-team field, which included 12 teams ranked in the top 50.
  • Tied for 46th at the Stanford Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, California, shooting a 6-over 219 (74-71-74) against a 19-team field that included 16 teams ranked in the top 50.
