PHILADELPHIA – The Maxwell Football Club announced the addition of Boise State sophomore Ashton Jeanty to the midseason watch list for the 87th Maxwell Award, presented to the best player in college football.
Jeanty currently leads the nation in the following statistical categories: total all-purpose yards (1,264), all-purpose yards per game (180.57), total touchdowns (15), total points scored (90), points scored per game (12.9), yards after contact (604), missed tackles caused (66), and yards after catch among non-wide receivers (430). He is the only player in the country to record over 250 scrimmage yards in multiple games.
A product of Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas, he ranks second nationally with 868 rushing yards and third in the FBS with 11 rushing touchdowns. In last week’s game against Colorado State, he tallied a career-high 212 rushing yards, besting his previous career-high of 205, set on Sept. 22 at San Diego State. Jeanty is just the fourth Bronco to record multiple 200-yard efforts in the same season since Boise State joined the FBS in 1996. The others are Jay Ajayi (2014), Jeremy McNichols (2016), and Alexander Mattison (2018).
This honor adds to an impressive list of midseason accolades for Jeanty. On Tuesday, he was named First Team Midseason All-America by ESPN and CBS Sports. On Wednesday, he earned the same honor from the Associated Press. All three teams listed Jeanty as their First Team all-purpose player, making him the only Group of 5 player to be listed on all three teams.
Founded in 1937, the Maxwell Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. The award is named after Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a Swarthmore College football player, coach, and sportswriter. The Maxwell Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football.
