FORT COLLINS, Colo., and Cary, N.C. (Oct. 1, 2023) – For the second consecutive fall tournament, a Wyoming Cowgirl has won a title as Noesjka Brink took home the “Gold” singles championship Sunday at the Jon Messick Invitational, hosted by Colorado State.

Brink joins Violetta Borodina and Sophie Zehender in winning a crown as the duo won the Bedford Cup doubles championship two weeks ago at Air Force. Brink, who went 4-0 at the tournament, claimed the title behind the strength of a 6-3, 6-2 win over CSU’s Sarah Weekley. Brink and her partner Jeselle Ante also got a doubles win earlier in the day, defeating a team from Weber State, 6-1.

The Cowgirls picked up two more doubles wins Sunday. Nikol Dobrilova and Adel Ismagulovadefeated Puzak and Nelson from Colorado, 6-3. Additionally, Serina Abriola and Lucia Malinakwon 6-4 over Maile Brilhante and Ana Chavez Sanchez.

Aside from Brink’s title win, UW got two other singles wins to close out the invite. Ante won in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2 over Lisa Kung of Utah State. Ismagulova closed with a thrilling win over South Dakota’s Medvyedyeva, 6-3, 3-6 and 11-9.

In addition to Cowgirl action in Fort Collins, Zehender continued her play at the ITA All-Americas. Zehender lost in her consolation matchup to Penn’s Gavriella Smith, 7-6 (7-5) and 6-3. Zehender and Borodina begin doubles play together Monday at the ITAs.
