COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV junior Natalia Ruiz has been named the Mountain West Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, while Air Force sophomore Brenton Maddox was selected as the MW Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Michaela Workman and Patrick Lawson of Air Force were tabbed the MW Freshmen of the Week.

 

WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

NATALIA RUIZ, UNLV

Junior, Madrid, Spain/Logos Internacional School

  • Won the UC Riverside Invitational with a personal-best 5k time of 17:02.2.
  • Time was nearly two seconds faster than the UNLV record that stood for almost 35 years.

 

WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

MICHAELA WORKMAN, AIR FORCE

Leesburg, Virginia/Tuscarora HS

  • Falcons’ top finisher at the Roadrunner Invitational in Denver, Colorado, placing ninth.
  • Clocked a debut 6k time of 22:53.58.

 

MEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

BRENTON MADDOX, AIR FORCE

Sophomore, Clovis, California/Buchanan HS

  • Placed fifth at the Roadrunner Invitational in Denver, Colorado, and was the third collegiate finisher.
  • Clocked a career-best 8k time of 25:12.82.

  • Member of the Falcons’ scoring lineup, placing 10th at the Roadrunner Invitational in Denver, Colorado.
