LOGAN, Utah – Following his performance against Idaho State in Utah State’s home opener, senior punter Stephen Kotsanlee was selected as one of Ray’s 8 by the Ray Guy Award on Monday.

This is the first time this season and third time in his career that Kotsanlee has been a Ray’s 8 selection.

Kotsanlee punted just three times in the Aggies’ 78-28 rout over the Bengals last Saturday night on Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium, but he made each one count. The native of Melbourne, Australia, averaged 45.3 yards per punt and had a career-long of 69 yards.

Two of Kotsanlee’s punts against Idaho State were downed inside the 20-yard line – one on the 7 and the other on the 8.

Kotsanlee, who also serves as Utah State’s holder on extra points and field goals, currently ranks fifth in the Mountain West and 21st in the nation in punting with an average of 45.2 yards per punt.

For his career, Kotsanlee has punted 166 times for 7,066 yards. That’s an average of 42.6 yards per punt, which ranks fifth all-time in school history. He has 36 punts of at least 50 yards and 62 punts that have been downed inside the 20.

Kotsanlee and the Aggies (1-1) return to the gridiron on Friday, Sept. 15, for a showdown with Air Force (2-0) at Falcon Stadium. The Mountain West opener for both teams, which is being televised on CBS Sports Network, is set to kick off at 6 p.m.
