FORT WORTH, Texas – Boise State quarterback Taylen Green was named to the Davey O’Brien Award Preseason Watch List, the Davey O’Brien Award Foundation announced Tuesday.
Green is one of 35 quarterbacks who were selected to the watch list for the award, which honors the top collegiate quarterback in the country. He is one of five sophomores on the list, and is one of two candidates out of the Mountain West along with San Jose State’s Chevan Cordeiro.
After taking over the starting position in week five last season, Green led the Broncos to an 8-2 record and was named the MW Freshman of the Year. He finished the year throwing for 2,042 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding 10 touchdowns on the ground, becoming one of nine quarterbacks to register at least 10 passing and 10 rushing touchdowns last season.
Green threw for 200-plus yards in six of his 10 starts, and surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark in three games, including a career-high 119-yard rushing performance in the Frisco Bowl. He is the first Boise State quarterback to run for 100 or more yards in a single game since 2014, and the first in program history to have multiple 100-yard games in a single season.
Already this offseason, the Lewisville, Texas, native was named a preseason first-team All-MW selection by Phil Steele Magazine, a second-team pick by Athlon Sports and was named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award.
Semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien Award will be named on Nov. 7, with three finalists scheduled to be revealed on Nov. 21. The winner of the 2023 Davey O’Brien Award will be unveiled live on ESPN on Dec. 7, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
