LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior wide receiver Terrell Vaughn has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2023 Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, announced Thursday by the Louisville Sports Commission.

Now in its 14th season, the Paul Hornung Award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission in memory of the late football legend and Louisville native. The 2023 award winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner in downtown Louisville in March of 2024.

Vaughn displayed his versatility as a junior in 2022, earning honorable mention all-Mountain West honors after hauling in 56 receptions for 624 yards and five touchdowns. He also returned 19 kickoffs for 503 yards and one touchdown, as well as rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

The 5-foot-7, 175-pound native of Oxnard, California, returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown against Weber State, tying the third-longest return in school history.

In arguably his best game as an Aggie, Vaughn caught a career-high eight passes for a career-best 148 yards, including a career-long 75-yarder for a touchdown at Boise State. He also scored on a 3-yard run and returned three kickoffs for 44 yards, finishing with 214 all-purpose yards against the Broncos.

On the season, Vaughn racked up 1,199 all-purpose yards, averaging 92.2 yards per game.

Vaughn is also a preseason first-team all-MW selection by Phil Steele and a second-team selection by Athlon Sports.

Utah State opens the 2023 season at Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 2, while its home opener is the following weekend against Idaho State on Saturday, Sept. 9. USU begins Mountain West play at Air Force on Saturday, Sept. 16.
