COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Defending Mountain West champion Boise State has been chosen to finish atop the Mountain Division, while two-time MW champion San Diego State has been predicted to win the West Division title, as announced today by the Mountain West.

Boise State, which has been predicted to win the Mountain Division in each of the last eight seasons, garnered 20 of the 21 first-place votes and 125 total points. The Broncos, who have won 22 of their last 24 MW contests, including 14 straight, are seeking their fourth-consecutive title game appearance and fifth overall.

San Diego State earned 19 first-place votes, totaling 122 points. This is the Aztecs’ first time favored to win the West Division since 2017. SDSU, which has won at least 10 games in four of the last five seasons, are looking to make its first appearance in the Conference championship game since 2016.

Wyoming picked up the additional first-place vote in the Mountain Division, while Nevada picked up two in the West Division. This is the first time the Wolf Pack have earned first-place votes in the MW preseason media poll since 2014.

This marks the eighth season of divisional play for the Conference, which moved to the two, six-team divisional format in 2013 following the additions of San José State and Utah State. The Mountain Division is comprised of Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming, while Fresno State, Hawai‘i, Nevada, San Diego State, San José State and UNLV make up the West Division. The two divisional winners will meet in the MW Championship Game on Dec. 5, 2020 at the home stadium of the divisional champion with the highest winning percentage in Conference games only.
