OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Rocco Caballero has been named the Brooks Wallace Award National Shortstop of the Week, announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Tuesday.
Caballero powered San Jose State to two run‑rule wins, one against Santa Clara and the other against UNLV, hitting .467 (7-for-15) with two doubles, five runs scored, three RBI, and four walks. He played error‑free defense and helped turn four double plays. The Spartans scored 18 runs across the two run‑rule victories—their highest single‑game output since 2023.
The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to honor the nation’s most outstanding shortstop. It is a tribute to Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977-80 who passed away at age 27 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Prior to 2009, the award recognized the national player of the year.
The Spartans will host Washington State in the first game of a three game series on Thursday, April 2, at 6:05 p.m. at Excite Ballpark. The game can be watched on Mountain West Network.
