Colorado Springs, Colo. – New Mexico junior Habtom Samuel has been named the Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, while Wyoming senior Cam Burkett also earned his second MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honor during the indoor campaign. Air Force’s Max McFarlane earned MW Men’s Freshman of the Week honors.
Boise State senior Kaiya Robertson was selected as the MW Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks and San Diego State senior Xiamara Young was tabbed the MW Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for a second time this year. First-year Bronco Priscilla Adu-Gyamfi picked up her second career MW Women’s Freshman of the Week honor after earning the nod on Jan. 27.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
HABTOM SAMUEL, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Keren, Eritrea/ Al Selef Al Salih
- Won the 3,000-meter race at the UW Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington, breaking his own program and Mountain West record with a time of 7:37.44.
- His mark currently ranks No. 6 in the NCAA.
- Now owns three of the top five times in the 3,000-meter race in Mountain West history.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
CAM BURKETT, WYOMING
Senior, Casper, Wyoming/Kelly Walsh HS
- For the fourth consecutive meet, finished first in the shot put at the Battle Born Classic in Reno, Nevada, with a mark of 19.06 meters (62-6.5).
- The personal-best mark ranks No. 3 all-time on Wyoming’s indoor list and is currently No. 2 in the Mountain West and No. 20 in the nation.

MAX MCFARLANE, AIR FORCE
Denair, California/ USAFA Prep School
- Recorded a career-best clearance of 5.34 meters (17-6.25) in pole vault, finishing sixth overall in the “A” section at the Jarvis Scott Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.
- His mark currently ranks No. 2 in the Mountain West, is the fifth-best by a freshman in the country and is No. 40 overall.
- Ranks No. 12 in Air Force program history.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
KAIYA ROBERTSON, BOISE STATE
Senior, Portland, Oregon/Franklin HS
- Two weeks after breaking the Boise State and Mountain West record in the mile, bettered the mark by over five seconds with a time of 4:24.51 in a second-place finish at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington.
- The time ranks as the eighth-fastest all conditions mile in NCAA history.
- Fastest mile in the Mountain West this season by over 11 seconds and ranks No. 6 overall in the nation.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
XIAMARA YOUNG, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, Las Vegas, Nevada/Fresno Pacific
- Swept the long jump and triple jump events at the Battle Born Classic.
- Her triple jump mark of 13.34 meters (43-9.25) is the best in the Mountain West and ranks tied for 10th in the NCAA.
- Posted a long jump mark of 6.26 meters (20-6.5), which ranks second in the Mountain West behind her season-best jump of 6.34 meters (20-9.75).

- Broke the Boise State program record in the 400-meter race at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational with an altitude-adjusted time of 53.51.
