FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Junior Landon Bott broke his own USU record in the men’s 800 meters as Utah State track & field athletes claimed four titles, seven podium finishes and an additional four performances ranking in the top 10 all-time at the Washington-hosted Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington, the Idaho State-hosted Mountain States Games in Pocatello, Idaho, the New Mexico-hosted Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the Arkansas-hosted Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Saturday.

“We had a great weekend at the four meets,” said Artie Gulden, USU’s director of track & field and cross country. “Three school records in one weekend and multiple top-10 marks is great. We had a lot of kids compete really well and take advantage of the opportunity. We will look now to get rested up and ready for our conference meet.”

Bott finished in 1:47.55 at the Tyson Invitational, crossing the line 0.24 seconds faster than his previous personal record which he set two weeks ago at the Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Invitational. The two-time Mountain West champion in the 800 meters ran the third-fastest time in conference history en route to placing second in the opening heat and sixth overall in the Championship section of the 800-meter competition.

Junior Shelby Jensen, less than a day after breaking the Utah State record in the women’s 3,000 meters, set another USU all-time top-10 time in the women’s mile at the Husky Classic, clocking in at 4:44.65. She moved from seventh to third in Utah State history in the event, improving on her previous personal best by 3.52 seconds, as she placed fifth in the competition’s seventh heat and 27th in the field.

Junior Joshua Armstrong added a strong performance in the men’s mile, finishing with a time of 4:02.95 that moved him from 10th to sixth in school history at the distance. The native of La Verkin, Utah, finished seventh in his heat and 29th out of 95 runners in the field.

In the shot put ring, junior Joseph Turner claimed the men’s title with a personal-best throw of 18.19 meters (59-8.25). The Lyman, Wyoming, product had a day to remember, as all six of his throws beat his previous personal best of 16.48 meters (54-1). His fifth, and best, attempt moved him to 10th in USU history in the indoor shot put.

In Albuquerque, senior Ernest Green finished fifth in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:49.98, a performance that moved him from ninth to fifth in USU history in the event. The 2025 MW silver medalist, which he earned on the same Albuquerque Convention Center track, currently ranks third in the conference with an altitude-converted time of 1:49.07. Senior Samuel Green placed seventh in the race with a time of 1:51.03, which ranks him eighth in the MW following altitude conversion to 1:50.41.

At the Mountain States Games in Pocatello, freshman Tayshaun Ogomo continued USU’s success in the men’s 800 meters, winning the competition with a time of 1:50.86. Ogomo joined his three teammates in the MW’s top-eight as his altitude-converted time of 1:50.34 ranks seventh in the conference.

Sophomore Ethan Peterson finished first in the men’s mile in Pocatello with a winning time of 4:10.91. The Farmington, Utah, native’s performance rated as his personal best following altitude conversion to 4:06.13.

The men’s distance squad continued its success in the men’s 3,000 meters, with junior Joseph McKee placing second with a time of 8:26.98.

Sophomore Shay Jones posted another strong performance in the women’s 400 meters to claim the title in Pocatello, crossing the line in a season-best 54.86 to beat the rest of the field by over a second.

Sophomore Presley Gray made her return to the high jump pit, finishing second in the Mountain States Games field with a clearance of 1.66 meters (5-5.25).

Late Friday night, the USU men’s DMR team of Peterson, freshman Brock White, senior Caleb Armstrong and junior John Simmons finished second with a time of 10:15.56.
