COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced on Tuesday athletes of the week for women’s swimming & diving. Nevada’s Scarlett Ferris was named the MW Swimmer of the Week, the Wolf Pack’s Bailey Heydra earned MW Diver of the Week honors and Grand Canyon’s Sara Mose was tabbed as the MW Freshman of the Week.
MOUNTAIN WEST SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
SCARLETT FERRIS, NEVADA
Junior, Fife, Scotland/Bell Baxter HS
• Set a Mountain West and Nevada record by winning the 100-yard backstroke with an NCAA qualifying time of 50.78.
• The time ranks as the 11th fastest time in the country this season.
• Also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.47, which ranks as the fourth fastest time in the MW this year.
• Led off Nevada’s 200-yard medley relay team with 23.79 backstroke split, helping the squad to a 1:39.85 runner‑up finish.
MOUNTAIN WEST DIVER OF THE WEEK
BAILEY HEYDRA, NEVADA
Senior, Johannesburg, South Africa/St Stithians College
• Captured first place on both springboards in a dual meet against UCLA, sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter dives to lead all divers in scoring.
• Posted a winning score of 300.85 on the 1-meter board, surpassing the NCAA Zone qualifying standard.
• Posted a winning score of 307.10 on the 3-meter board, surpassing the NCAA Zone qualifying standard.
• This is the sixth time she has earned Mountain West Diver of the Week honors this season.
MOUNTAIN WEST FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
SARA MOSE, GRAND CANYON
Swimmer, Warsaw, Poland/Szkola w Chmurze HS
• Won two individual events and a relay, helping lead Grand Canyon to a dual meet victory over UNLV.
• Won the 50-yard freestyle with a 22.90 time, which ranks as the 14th fastest time in the Mountain West this year.
• Also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.59.
• Was part of a winning 200-yard medley relay team, which set a pool record, with a time of 1:40.62.
• This is the third time she has earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors this season.
