Colorado Springs, Colo. – Grand Canyon senior Jacob Holguin has been named the Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Utah State’s Sam Beckwith was tabbed the MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Grand Canyon sophomore Cassie Small has been selected as the MW Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Lopes junior Eva Lowder was named the MW Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. Utah State’s Lexi Toronto picked up MW Women’s Freshman of the Week honors.

There was no selection for Men’s Freshman of the Week.

MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK 
JACOB HOLGUIN, GRAND CANYON
Senior, Phoenix, Arizona/Arizona Lutheran Academy

  • Took first place in the 60-meter sprint at the NAU Axe ‘Em Open.
  • His time of 6.67 is the third-fastest of any MW athlete in the event this season.
  • His altitude-adjusted time of 6.71 also ranks 24th overall in the event in Division I.

MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK 
SAM BECKWITH, UTAH STATE
Junior, Alpine, Utah/Lone Peak HS

  • Won the long jump at the Weber State Invitational.
  • Set a personal-best with a mark of 7.19 meters (23-7.0).
  • Mark ranks fifth in the Mountain West and 50th in the country this season.

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
CASSIE SMALL, GRAND CANYON
Sophomore, Georgetown, Guyana/New Campbellville Secondary School

  • Took first place in the 60-meter spring at the NAU Axe ‘Em Open
  • Her time of 7.40 is the fastest time in the Mountain West this season.
  • Her altitude-adjusted time of 7.44 ranks 44th in the nation.

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
EVA LOWDER, GRAND CANYON
Junior, Boise, Idaho/Centennial HS

  • Won the pole vault at the NAU Axe ‘Em Open with a mark of 4.27m (14-0.0).
  • Broke her own school record of 4.25m (13-11.25) that she set at the Silver State Invitational in December.
  • Top mark in the Mountain West and tied for ninth in the NCAA.

WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK 
LEXI TORONTO, UTAH STATE
Farmington, Utah/Viewmont HS

  • Finished seventh overall in the 800 meters (2:17.31) and helped the Aggies win the Distance Medley Relay (12:39.55) at the Weber State Invitational.
  • Her converted 800-meter time of 2:15.06 ranks thirds in the MW, is the top time among conference freshman and is 10th overall among freshman nationally.
  • Converted DMR time of 12:21.01 is second in the MW and fifth in the nation.
