HONOLULU – University of Hawai’i quarterback Micah Alejado is one of 14 semifinalists for the seventh annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, presented to the outstanding freshman in college football by the Maxwell Football Club.

Finalists will be announced on December 3 and the winner will be revealed on December 30. The formal presentation of this award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Atlanta, Ga.

The Las Vegas, Nev., native leads FBS with an average of 28.43 completions per game and ranks No. 2 in the Mountain West and No. 5 nationally with 303.4 passing yards per game. He is also seventh nationally in total offense, averaging 314.5 yards per game.

In seven games played, Alejado has thrown for 300+ yards four times, including twice over 400 yards, becoming the first UH quarterback with consecutive 400-yard passing games since Cole McDonald in 2018. The redshirt freshman has completed 65.9 percent of his attempts this season with 2,124 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Alejado is one of only two players from Group of 5 conference teams along with North Texas quarterback Drew Mestemaker.

The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award has been presented annually since 2018 and is named in honor of Shaun Alexander, a former standout at the University of Alabama and with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL.
