COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State junior Murf Gray has been named the Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week, while Nevada sophomore Alessandro Castro was selected as the MW Baseball Pitcher of the Week. San Diego State’s Peyton Rodgers earned the MW Baseball Freshman of the Week nod.

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MURF GRAY, FRESNO STATE

Junior, Infielder, Madera, California/Madera South HS

  • Helped Fresno State to a 3-1 record last week against Pacific and New Mexico.
  • Batted .467 in four starts at third base with seven hits, including four home runs, seven RBIs and seven runs scored.
  • Also registered three walks and 11 assists.
  • Posted a 1.333 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage.

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

ALESSANDRO CASTRO, NEVADA

Sophomore, Tucson, Arizona/Pima CC

  • Led Nevada to a 12-0 win over San José State on Friday night as the Wolf Pack clinched their fourth MW regular-season title.
  • Tossed seven shutout innings, scattering seven hits and allowing no walks.
  • Struck out four batters.

 

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

PEYTON RODGERS, SAN DIEGO STATE

Pitcher, Solana Beach, California/Torrey Pines HS

  • Helped San Diego State clinch a berth to the MW championship after two appearances on the mound.
  • Pitched five scoreless innings allowing just two hits and no walks.
  • Struck out six batters and earned a save in the final game of the series, securing the three-game sweep of Washington State.
