COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nevada senior Youssef Kadiri has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Air Force’s Matthew Staton has been tabbed the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

On the women’s side, San Diego State senior Yasmine Kabbaj earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week nod, while San José State’s Soledad Fayos Capilla was tabbed the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
YOUSSEF KADIRI, NEVADA
Senior, Casablanca, Morocco/Oregon

  • Recorded a 3-1 mark on the week, competing at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles.
  • Went undefeated at No. 1 singles against Texas Tech and Florida Gulf Coast.
  • Earned Nevada’s lone point in the match against Texas Tech with a (6-2, 6-2) win.

MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MATTHEW STATON, AIR FORCE
Bristow, Virginia/Colgan Senior

  • Finished the weekend undefeated with a perfect 2-0 combined record in singles and doubles.
  • Secured a straight-sets win at No. 5 singles against Jacksonville State, winning 6-2, 6-4.
  • Clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 3.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
YASMINE KABBAJ, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, Fes, Morocco/ Florida International University

  • Secured back-to-back top-court singles victories, winning both matches in straight sets.
  • Secured a commanding 6-0, 6-4 victory against No. 26 Washington’s top singles player, Erika Matsuda.
  • Played a key role in the Aztecs’ 4-2 win over Hawai’i, earning the team’s third point.

WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
SOLEDAD FAYOS CAPILLA, SAN JOSÉ STATE
Valencia, Spain/ Escuelas San Jose Jesvitas

  • Recorded a perfect 4-0 mark on the week, competing at No 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
  • Dominated in singles play, securing straight-sets victories over Saint Mary’s (6-2, 6-2) and CSUN (6-1, 6-1).
  • Clinched the doubles point for the team against Saint Mary’s.
